【キースのブログ】Comparing life in Perth to Fukuoka.

After living in Japan for 4 and a half months now, I’ve had a lot of time to think about how life in Perth, Australia compares to Fukuoka.

The most noticeable difference is how active life in Japan is. Walking and riding bicycles are so common in Japan, yet so uncommon in Australia.
In Australia, bicycles are rarely used for transport. They are only used for fitness. Whereas, in Fukuoka, it seems that almost everybody uses a bicycle as a main form of transport.
I think this is great! It leads to a much healthier lifestyle if you are exercising every day during your trip to work or school.

The next big thing is the difference in price.
Australia is a very expensive country. One of the most expensive in the world!

We have a much higher income (the minimum wage is around 2000円 per hour), but the prices of rent, utilities and food are far higher than Japan.

An meal for 2 at a mid-range restaurant in Australia might cost around 8000円, a pint of beer at the pub will cost 1000円, and renting an apartment in the city will probably cost at least 140,000円 per month!

However, one thing that is far more expensive in Japan is fruit. Most fruits are 150%+ more expensive in Japan than they are in Perth. Very frustrating as someone who loves fruit!

Don’t let this make you think Australia is not a good country to visit. It really is! Australia is a beautiful country.

The beaches are amazing. They have bright white sand, clear blue water, and some of the most beautiful sunsets you will ever see. If you like the beach, then you should definitely make Australia your next destination.

Australian life is very different to Japan, in good and bad ways. But, if you ever get the chance to visit Australia, you will not regret it!
